Portable Precision Gauging Training | Hands-On Caliper and Micrometer Skills

Learning System: 990-PG1

Amatrol’s Portable Precision Gauging Learning System (990-PG1) teaches the fundamentals of basic measurement, precision measurement, direct gauging, indirect gauging, and dimensional measurements using both the U.S. customary system and the SI metric system. Measurement is a cornerstone of all technical career paths and a major part of quality assurance, helping to keep product quality high and costs low.

This portable, highly-durable learning system features calipers, micrometers, and a variety of gauges within a flexible, convenient product that can be easily transported for use in multiple environments. These measuring devices, along with a set of precisely-machined components, are used to teach skills, such as measuring length, determining inside and outside dimensions accurately, and collecting process data. Customers can also expand their learning system by purchasing an optional Snap Gauge (99-PG2).

World-Class Technical Learning Wherever You Are

Amatrol’s Portable Precision Gauging Learning System allows learners at multiple sites to practice vital measurement skills. Accurate measurement lies at the heart of product quality in areas like design, manufacturing, or repair and can be used in careers such as quality control inspector, machinist, manufacturing engineer, operations manager, and production technician. The 990-PG1 provides learners the opportunity to use real-world components to practice hands-on skills, such as using a plug gauge to measure the smooth bores in parts and gauging machined lips containing various defects. The system also includes precision-machined test parts with slight variations in their dimensions, simulating a production run that challenges learners to practice measurement while also testing their newly-obtained knowledge of tolerances to determine whether parts are within or exceed required specifications.

Expand Your Learning System with an Optional Snap Gauge (99-PG2)

Customers who want experience with more advanced gauges can expand Amatrol’s Portable Precision Gauging Learning System by adding an optional Snap Gauge (99-PG2). A snap gauge uses adjustable anvils to precisely measure a cylindrical part’s diameter against a master part to which it is calibrated. The learning system’s interactive curriculum includes a section on how to use a snap gauge. The 99-PG2 Snap Gauge fits securely into the 990-PG1’s portable case and integrates seamlessly into the training.

Engaging, Highly-Interactive Multimedia

Amatrol’s curriculum features a highly-interactive, multimedia format that includes stunning 3D graphics and videos, voiceovers of all text, and interactive quizzes and exercises designed to appeal to learners with different learning styles. The 990-PG1’s curriculum teaches learners how to choose the appropriate measuring device to use in a particular situation, how to read different types of gauges, and how to obtain accurate readings. For example, learners will study digital calipers, their components, and their advantages over dial calipers. They will then use a digital caliper to measure the inside and outside dimensions of a part. The combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills solidifies understanding and creates a strong basis for pursuing more advanced skills.

This course includes a virtual simulator!

The 990-PG1's interactive multimedia includes a virtual simulator where learners can practice skills online. By using the simulator, users can learn how to use dial calipers, digital calipers, micrometers, and more to measure sample shafts, plates, and disks.
