PLC-based on/off control, or two-position control, is a control method commonly used in process control applications to maintain a process variable within a specified operating range. In the simplest of these applications, the controller uses discrete input switches or sensors to monitor the high and low limits of the range. The controller uses the status of the inputs and program logic to turn a discrete output device on and off, keeping the process variable in control.
