Amatrol’s Metrology Learning System (910-QC3) teaches fundamental industrial principles including measurement, gauging, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and statistical process control (SPC). Metrology includes a workstation, modular gauge system and accessories, precision measurement gauge set, precision measuring tools kit, parts set, and a storage unit. Learners will use these components to understand real-world topics and applications like measurement conversion, dimensional gauging, location tolerances, GD&T, and orientation tolerances. The Metrology system is also a classroom option with Amatrol’s CNC Machine Operator Program for preparing learners for certifications. Measurement skills are an integral part of operating CNC machines. This industrial training system allows learners to develop practical, hands-on skills that will be directly applied as CNC machine operators.

Practice Hands-On Skills for GD&T Training and SPC Training

Metrology features a variety of real-world components, such as: a modular gauge, snap gauge, dial depth gauge, step gauge, and more! This system teaches skills with a wide variety of industrial gauges that helps learners build a solid foundation in modern measurement tools and application.

As an example, learners will practice using a snap gauge to perform quick, accurate measurement of cylindrical parts’ outside diameters and a thread gauge to determine if a part’s threads are within tolerance specifications. Other examples of skills include: identifying baseline dimensions; using a caliper to measure an outside length of a part; calculating the limits of a dimension given its tolerance; determining if a hole meets position tolerance; and measuring parallelism of a rectangular part using an indicator.

Strong Theoretical Measurement and Gauging Knowledge

Accurate measurement lies at the heart of product quality, whether in design, manufacturing, or repair, but just as important is the understanding of the theoretical concepts behind the skills. Metrology’s curriculum covers major topic areas like basic measurement, precision measurement tools, dimensional gauging, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and location, orientation, and form tolerances. Specific examples of objectives that learners will study include: describing the function of a gauge block; stating the typical accuracy of a digital caliper; and describing how to convert measurements made in common-inch fractions to decimals.
